Fine Landscape Photographer “Through the lens, I capture the soul of the landscape—where light, shadow, and natural beauty converge.”

Growing Up.

A Little About Me…
Hello, and thanks for stopping by. My name is Ken Strieby Jr., and I’m a fine landscape photographer who recently moved to beautiful Bend, Oregon I have always had a deep love for the natural beauty of the West Coast. I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, where I spent my childhood exploring the forests, beaches, and rugged coastlines of the Pacific Northwest. Those early adventures sparked a lifelong connection to nature and a passion for capturing it through photography. I loved photography from a young age carrying my small Panasonic camera and taking pictures often may times wherever I went.

Growing up in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, was an amazing time to grow up in Seattle, I stayed pretty active and was always involved in something—sports, painting, photography, and working on cars were all big parts of my life. I tended to be extremely competitive and liked pushing to improve always, especially when it came to athletics.

Sports seemed to come pretty naturally to me early on. At a young age I was named Athlete of the Year at my school at age twelve that was a really meaningful moment—it gave me confidence and helped shape the work ethic and focus I carried into junior high and high school. In my early teens, I played on select soccer and select basketball teams, along with several all-star baseball teams. Later, at Mountlake Terrace High School just north of Seattle, I competed in four sports, and my senior year led our varsity football team in turnovers in only my second year of ever playing football. Our homecoming game my Senior year I had an interception and 2 fumble recoveries and a sack in one game. Thinking back… that was all such a fun time and something I will always cherish!

After high school, I went on to play college baseball while studying graphic design and photography in Bellevue and working part-time at a graphic design firm. Living on my own and balancing school, work, and athletics was challenging, but it was also a valuable experience.

Not long into college, though, all the years of playing sports year-round from such a young age started to catch up with me, and I found myself very burned out while working and going to school. It was tough, because I had always imagined going further with baseball, I know I could have, but my priorities began to shift, and I didn’t have that fire for it anymore honestly. I wanted to slow down a bit, spend much more time with friends, and reconnect with other parts of life for the first time in forever it seemed… I was really enjoying the time away from it!

Beyond School

Just a few years later when I was 27, I moved to Phoenix, Arizona, on my own seeking a change of scenery. I started an auto paint repair business as I always loved cars and thinking it would be a more practical and good income choice than pursuing a career in photography at that stage of my life. Landscape photography wasn’t as popular back then in the mid-1990’s, and the internet was still barely in its infancy.

After running my business outside in the elements of Phoenix’s relentless heat around 20 some years it was truly brutal, I found myself really yearning for something different. My job and my wife’s job gave us the opportunity to spend several incredible years in beautiful San Diego, California, where we purchased a 2nd home and we lived part-time near the stunning coastline of La Jolla to get out of the Phoenix summer heat. We absolutely loved it. The beauty of the coast, combined with the vibrant art scene in the La Jolla area, “it really inspired me” and really made me feel so alive, I loved it so much!

STRIEBY PHOTOGRAPHY | FINE ART LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY |CENTRAL OREGON

I realized that my true passion was in Fine Landscape Photography and my auto paint business I had In AZ had done really well allowing me to peruse a dream. Photography professionally was always a goal of mine, not just a hobby I did in my spare time. I had long “really admired” the fine art professional photographers and captivating galleries in downtown La Jolla, visiting them very often and feeling an undeniable pull toward pursuing photography professionally. So, my decision was made, and it was not a hard decision at all I knew it was time to turn my dream into reality and follow my heart into the world of fine art and landscape photography full-time.

A New Journey of Discovery in Fine Landscape Photography

I started my landscape photography career living in both AZ and San Diego in a short time was named 2 times one of the best landscape photographers in Phoenix by 2 publications a real honor. Not very long after starting my new chapter and photographing the stunning landscapes of the West Coast, I found my true calling in a gem of a place called Bend, Oregon back in the beautiful Pacific Northwest near where it all began and luckily my wife liked it a lot too and “who wouldn’t” it’s CNN top 5 summer destinations in the whole entire United States this past year. This vibrant, outdoor-centric town has just recently become my new home 2025, and it has quickly become my personal haven and the place to pursue my landscape career. With its spectacular mountains, pristine lakes and rivers, and expansive wilderness, and closeness to the Pacific Ocean, Bend is a landscape photographer, and outdoor enthusiasts dream, the sheer beauty is undeniable!

Whether capturing the misty beauty of the Oregon Coast or the dramatic peaks and rain forests of the Cascade Mountains, my mission is to convey the magnificence of these places through the lens. Landscape photography, for me, is not just about snapping pictures—it’s about sharing a vision. I aim to show you the world as I see it, through my eyes and my imagination. My work goes beyond capturing a moment; it seeks to tell a story, evoke a feeling, and connect the viewer to something greater.

While I studied photography and graphic design in Seattle, I consider myself primarily self-taught. Over the years, countless hours spent in the field photographing landscapes, experimenting with light and angles, watching endless videos and learning from every shot—have shaped my approach to photography. It’s an ongoing journey of discovery, where every shoot presents new challenges, but also new opportunities to create something unique.

What excites me most about landscape photography is the challenge of finding the perfect composition, the ideal lighting, and the artistic angles that transform an ordinary scene into something extraordinary. It’s about capturing a fleeting moment of light and harnessing it to tell a deeper story. I’m passionate about getting it right in-camera—perfectly balancing all elements to create images that feel alive, authentic and artistic in nature.
